It may leave a sharp and uneven edge so try to plan your cut so that the cut edge is covered in trim work if possible. On my fire place the bottom edge if the bottom tiles were cut. To get a smoother cut edge I used sand paper to even out any issues. If you have one, a grinder can also do a nice job to smooth that edge, just be sure to wear protective eye wear and gloves. Good luck!Kelynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05817835142781560713noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-676720282212309653.post-1552190750110087512021-11-29T06:50:41.579-08:002021-11-29T06:50:41.579-08:00Hi! Question for you since I've never worked with tin. Some of the tiles on my fireplace are not 12 x 12. Can you cut the tin or is that difficult? I was going to ask the vendor too. I love how you expressed your thought process throughout - it’s now 2019 and while I still love the chevron motif, I’m also concerned about it’s longevity style-wise. My surround is terra cotta tile so I’m still checking out other tile or makeover ideas and this is a good one. My concern though in your example is all of the fill in you did with grout along the edges. I just don’t think I can pull off the seamlessly smooth finish that you have and would likely end of with grout in all the wrong places! Thanks for this post - I’ll defikitrly check out your others.<br /> Best ~ Stacey in DenverUnknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12325441198303992764noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-676720282212309653.post-36176119000131943952019-01-01T15:16:37.627-08:002019-01-01T15:16:37.627-08:00Sorry I have a question: How did you cut the tile ...Sorry I have a question: How did you cut the tile or did you? It still looked great at that time. The tin tile was from metalceilingexpress.com Because it was tin, it was able to withstand the heat without warping. The only maintenance I've needed to do is on the caulk. Caulk can yellow over time. I used paintable caulk and tried to paint over it to keep it white. A few places I missed with paint did get a little yellow but nothing paint couldn't fix. Honestly, I doubt anyone would have noticed anyway but I was inspecting. :)Kelynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05817835142781560713noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-676720282212309653.post-34365358127474452702015-10-31T14:28:47.202-07:002015-10-31T14:28:47.202-07:00This is exactly what I've been thinking of doi...This is exactly what I've been thinking of doing!
